“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence”. An awesome quote from the coaching great, Vince Lombardi. We came up with a quote one day. We could see our future waxing lyrical and becoming inspirational quote geniuses. Or at least we thought we did, only to Google it and see that Mark Cuban had already said it. He’s very rich. We’re not. He wins, we lose.

We’re off on a tangent here, so lets pull it back. Where are we going with the original quote at the top of this blog about perfection?

Read on for some truths about perfection and it’s non-existence…..

By now, you may be well into the race for your goals that you set for yourself. When we plan, we forget the one thing that will cause havoc as we chase down our targets…..

Life. Everyday life.

No day is ever perfect. Many of you who are reading this blog will have children, partners, jobs, and priorities. All of these things in one way or another will play a part in the battle you face in the chase for the ghost of perfection. Life is unpredictable.

This is where you’ll need to be flexible, rather than defeated. This blog will give you a couple of ideas and tips on how you can embrace the fact that you will rarely see a perfect day and never see a perfect week, or year.

Blog Title - Perfection

Planning your exercise is something that you should be doing regularly by now. That said, you need to have a contingency plan should child sickness strike or late finishes at work impact your planned training session.

Exercise can be performed just about anywhere with a little imagination by using what you have, at any given time, and in any place. It might not be the perfect workout you had planned, but it’s still a workout.

Make allowances for missing sessions. You may literally not have the time to workout due to the fact that somethings in life are unavoidable, and more important. This may impact on two or three days of training, but don’t let this mean that you accept defeat and give up on what you want altogether, when you can resume exercise.

If you accept them, you can modify any plans you had. Remember that you should look at remaining flexible this year, and every year from now on.

Turn everyday things into activity. Make your mundane, everyday tasks more of a challenge. Take the stairs. Walk to work. Park your car further away. Break up long periods of sitting by moving around. Get active with the kids (a Nerf war is an acceptable form of exercise, by the way). If life gets in the way, you have at least had some small form of exercise.

A couple of tips for you to follow so that you don’t waste your time chasing perfection.

Unless her name’s Beyonce. Then chase away friend, chase away.
