We’ve had a few questions recently on what are the best oils to use whilst cooking. There are several out there on the market but in this short blog, we’ll give you some of the pro’s and con’s of three of the most popular oils.

Firstly, it should be said that different oils have different smoking points. Basically, this means that some are better than others for cooking. The release of free radicals damages the quality of certain oils at high temperatures. Here are three of the best:

Extra virgin – This means that the olives have been through the press once rather than twice, which improves the cooking quality of the oil. Try to buy an oil in a darker bottle, as natural light can damage the oil. Great for use at party’s too, as a dipping.

Rapeseed – Packed with Omegas & Vitamin E, it’s also great for your skin. Superb for frying and roasting, and doesn’t lose it’s taste when cooked at a high temperature.

Coconut – One of the most popular oils around at the moment, and one which strikes much debate. Good for cooking at high temperatures, it’s one of the better sources of oils to keep your cholesterol levels in check. The down side is it doesn’t come cheap, and may set you back around £6 to £8 on average.
