There may be many of you reading this who have failed with your training goals. You may have signed up for the gym because your mates were members. You may have done it when you were feeling inspired. You thought this time it would be your time to stick to it.

But you were wrong.

Your membership card is left gathering dust, and the motivation you initially had has gone from fizz, to flat.

In this blog, we’re going to look at some of the reasons that it failed and how we stop that from ever happening again.

The thing that many people fail to realise is that once you adopt a consistent routine, that routine needs to become exactly that.

Routine. Forever.

Not just for summer because you’re going on your jollies, and you want your bikini body. Not just for the new year because you’ve over indulged in the festive season. It needs to be so ingrained in your life that it becomes not just second nature, but a strength.

Here’s some pointers to get you started…..

No plan – The age old saying that “failing to plan means you plan to fail”. You just dived in head first and did a little bit of this, and a little bit of that. “Ooh look, that piece of equipment looks interesting.” No. That is not a plan.

You may know what you want. You just don’t have a plan of how to get there. You wouldn’t get in your car and set off on a journey without knowing how to get to your final destination.

You need to plan. It’s fairly simple. You need to take the time to look at what your goal is and devise a plan of how to get there. If you can’t, seek help from someone who knows how to get you there.

No goal – If you have no plan, then you can safely say you have no solid, strong goal. Start by looking at where you are right now.

Here’s an example. Take measurements. Look at what you want the ultimate you to look like. Then set a realistic timeline to get there. And continue to track and measure as you go.

No instant reward – You didn’t see success in the first five days, so you gave up. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Cliched, but the truth. This isn’t something that’s going to come overnight. You’re in this for the long haul, so settle in and do the work.
