“You should come to the gym. It’s absolutely hilarious”. Those were the words my best friend, Elaine Avison, said to me when describing Fitness Formation. Not how I would usually describe a gym, but hey, I was willing to listen.

I was a bit sceptical at first. How can you laugh so much and actually accomplish fitness anything.  Like lots of others, I’ve been there and done the gym thing, got bored of my own company, little motivation and eventually stopped going. Many times over. I’ve had my own personal setbacks. Separating from my husband after over 20 years of marriage, long story but we still share the same house and yes, it is difficult but he is also very disabled and we have three children, but with the help and support of friends I have got through the initial phase of that.

Over many vodka filled evenings, Elaine and I would talk about how we wanted to change things for ourselves. Getting fit was usually top of the agenda. Then one day she took me by surprise and joined FF. What the hell? Who/what/where was FF. Soon she was describing lots of banter, laughter but also hardcore workouts. I took the plunge and joined on one of the ‘6 Week Transformation’ programmes.

I booked my first session and with more than a little trepidation, I headed to FF. I was met by the human incarnation of Tigger, Ryan. He explained the warm ups, kept an eye on me during the work out and checked I was ok afterward. What a sweet boy! What a great session. Oh, and don’t think there wasn’t banter galore in my first session. There was and it was damn hilarious!

Soon I was crying with laughter while trying to do sit up’s, out of breath chuckling while attempting to do burpees, but the core of each session was actual interest and knowledge from Ryan and Dan about each person who was there.

Maria Cozens - Success Story

This is not just a gym. It is the gym. I’m almost reluctant to tell others about this little gem of a place in case it gets too popular, but I owe it to the guys at FF to say how amazing it is.

Ryan, Dan Ben and Heather (Bucks) are the team behind Fitness Formation.  If Ryan is ‘The Dark Lord’ (TDL) of FF, then Dan must be Severus Snape. Equally as magically monstrous but just a hint of humanity lurking (this is banter by the way folks). Ryan and Dan are a powerhouse of knowledge, training and information on all things exercise related. These guys know exactly what they are doing, how to do it effectively and how to get results.

This is no fluffy, steam roomed, pink tiled lounging space, but a serious gym space with some of the most supportive, encouraging gym goers you will ever meet. Egos are checked at the door or kept in check, if you are a good athlete great, but this is not about showcasing your skills so others will be in awe of you. Prepare to be pushed further and even more so, you will be equally as “worked out” as the other group members.

But, is it more expensive than other gyms? Yep it is, and do you know why? Because each and every group session you do, you will have semi-personal training from Ryan, Ben or Dan. No one is left to struggle with technique or exercise ,as the boys will tell you how to do it properly each time. This is how results are achieved. There are also 1:1 personal training sessions packages available, also.

Fitness Formation is a family. Ryan, Ben and Dan know everyone’s name (or you may be lucky and they give you a name) and greet everyone who comes through the door. I can categorically state that if you decide to join FF in whatever capacity, you will not be disappointed.  Set your goals, prepare to transform and commit.

Invest in yourselves.
