When I returned from my holiday last August, I was horrified by my holiday snaps. Who was this bloated creature in huge floaty smocks and T-shirts? I realised that I had been in denial about my weight for some time and had just been buying bigger and bigger sizes. It was only when the size 18’s were about to give way to size 20’s that something in me said…

“Help!”

I have been a member at other gyms/classes with various amounts of success but with work and other commitments, I had altered my routine with disastrous results. I got the regular FF adverts into my in-box so they had been on my mind for a while and I knew that what I needed was someone to seriously kick my backside.

A friend was already at FF and she offered to take me, as I was nervous to go for the first time. Ryan was on his best behaviour that night and despite him giving me small weights, I could hardly move the next day. I realised that this was exactly what I needed and signed up for PT sessions straight away.

I noticed serious changes in my body shape within 6 weeks and after 10 months was back into size 12’s. I decided to set my first challenge 6 months from joining, to run the Coniston 14. I had registered for the race 2 years previously but had never done the training and ended up letting my friend down…

I knew that I could not do that again. I started my running training and sustained a knee injury in doing so. Ryan and Dan kept me motivated and gave me other exercise to do while I could not run. When the day came round for the race, the longest training run I had done was 6 miles and I was so terrified, I cried in the toilets. However, once I started I realised that I was fitter than I thought and made the whole circuit at a slow run.

Ryan, Dan and now Ben are great coaches, each with something different to add to a session. My PT’s have mainly been with Dan but all three can assess your ability very quickly and will push you to your limits. They have kept me motivated, even when I had hit a plateau.

However, the thing that makes FF different from any other gym is the members. I love my #fitnessformationfamilia and can’t express enough the love and encouragement I have felt in this place. I love knowing everyone’s’ names and having a joke and coffee after a session.

I have just signed up for a second year, so the proof is in the pudding. So, If you are unhappy with your shape or fitness, then FF can help you achieve your goals whether it’s to lose 5lb or 5 stone, run 5km or become an Ironman. It is hard work though. Be prepared to get hot, sweaty and ache.

In my opinion, it is well worth it and fun at the same time. All you have to do is make that first step.
