I have always tried to maintain some level of fitness, and like others, whatever weight I was I always wanted to be half a stone or so, less. I moved into Lancaster a year ago, after getting divorced.

A single full-time working mum with all that that entails meant I came last on a very long list. My friends and family are scattered all over the country and I wanted a way to meet people and have a bit of time for me.

I joined FF early last year signing up initially for a month. For less than the price of a magazine subscription, I got unlimited use of the gym and I was hooked. My work days regularly start at five and if you’d told me I would be setting the alarm to go to the gym for six every morning in a weeks holiday I would have laughed. But that’s exactly what happened recently.  And I felt great after a two hour workout every morning.

I used to run in the past. It was cheap, flexible and generally solitary, but I never pushed myself. Here, the coaches and the real sense of camaraderie, mean you push yourself more than if you were doing it alone.

When I stay away with work I use the gym in whichever hotel I am in and I never work as hard, don’t feel as good and definitely don’t have nearly as much fun.

Here, there may not be rows and rows of big machines but you soon realise that what equipment there is and the sessions you do, will make you work much harder than I ever would have done on a ten mile run. And it is much more fun in the bargain.

I haven’t lost several stone, but what I have gained is access to a great gym where I look forward to going. The coaches are great, and give individual attention. The coaches know me and what I am capable of, they push me so that I push myself, and my fitness levels are better than they have been in years.

Best of all, the people are great. The welcome is really warm and you are soon part of the gang. I looked at a few gyms before joining Fitness Formation and felt them about as welcoming as the Trafford Centre without the fun of shopping!

Will I be continuing my membership? Absolutely.
